Speak up on Royalties – Attend the Meetings – Participate Online

Attend the Meetings – Participate Online – Speak up on Royalties

We have two opportunities to speak up on royalties as part of the Alberta’s new government Royalty Review. For the good of the province, for the good of its workers, we are asking you to participate in both.

I would encourage you to visit letstalkroyalties.ca. Over the next two months the Royalty Review Panel will use the website to ask a series of questions and provide updates on what is being heard across the province. Additional follow-up questions will be added to the web page over time, so it will be helpful to visit the webpage early to be a part of every stage of the conversation. We have included a backgrounder on the AFL’s stance on Royalties with this letter.

Alberta’s Royalty Review Panel will be hosting two public sessions October 5 in Calgary and October 6 in Edmonton. The sessions will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The venues are MacEwan University in the Heart Room located in the Robbins Health Learning Centre (10910 104 Ave.) in Edmonton and Calgary’s location is TBA. This drop-in session is an opportunity to learn about the review, ask questions of subject matter experts, and add your voice to the conversation. There will be a presentation at 6:30 p.m., at which some of the issues facing the panel will be explored.

The Alberta Federation of Labour is a supporting partner of this review process because we believe that the people we represent – the workers of this province – have an important voice in this discussion. We are asking the members of our affiliated unions to read the attached documentation, and if possible to attend the royalty review.

You can also connect with the Panel on social media: follow the Panel on Twitter, @RoyaltiesAB, and like it on Facebook, www.facebook.com/ABRoyaltyReview.

A strong turnout from Alberta’s workers, in person and online, will remind the panel that we have a stake in what happens with our resources.

Thank you,

Siobhán Vipond

Secretary Treasurer and Acting President

Alberta Federation of Labour
