EDMONTON – Alberta Health Services has named a new president and CEO, health minister Fred Horne announced on Friday.
Vickie Kaminski, will take her post on June 2. She was most recently the president and CEO of Eastern Regional Health Authority in Newfoundland and Labrador, and worked in Ontario prior to that.
“I know that Ms. Kaminski shares my view that the most important role of the CEO and AHS’ senior management team is to ensure that our front-line health care workers have the support they need to continue to focus on what’s most important – patients,” said Horne in a statement.
Kaminski, a native of Sudbury, Ont., is a registered nurse, with 35 years of experience in the health care, according to her official biography.
“I am excited to join Alberta Health Services and to build on the foundation that has been created to date,” said Kaminski in a statement. “This is a wonderful opportunity to further strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in Alberta and to create a health care system that is open and responsive to all Albertans.”
Dr. John Cowell, AHS’ official administrator, said the appointment is the result of an extensive search that resulted in a number of excellent candidates.
“We are looking forward to her arrival and for her, in collaboration with the others on the leadership team, to continue to build a health system that is second to none,” he said.
