Action Request: RALLY against Bill 45 and 46 in Calgary
at MLA Neil Brown’s Constituency Office
When: Monday, December 16, 2013
Where: Calgary-Mackay-Nose Hill MLA Neil Brown’s constituency office – 16, 5440 – 4 Street N.W. Calgary
Time: 3:00 PM
Bills 45 and 46 target public sector wages and the right to collective bargaining and are steps toward Tea Party-Style ‘right-to-work’ laws.
During debates around Bill 45, Progressive Conservative MLA Dr. Neil Brown called unionized jail guards who chose to strike over safety concerns at Edmonton’s Remand Centre worse than Stanley Cup rioters in Vancouver:
“In the case of a bunch of civilians going on a mayhem after a hockey game and smashing windows and looting and rioting and causing injuries – it’s a little bit different where you are a public servant…You have an obligation to abide by the terms of your contract. Even more importantly and ultimately, you have an obligation, when a judge of a superior court orders you to go back to work, to get into your place to protect public safety. To me, that’s a quantum leap above a civil riot in Vancouver. It’s not equivalent; it’s a heck of a lot worse, in my view.”
– Dr. Neil Brown, December 2, 2013
During Monday’s rally participants will call on Dr. Brown to tell Premier Redford and her caucus to repeal that Bill 45 and 46. This rally is being organized by AUPE and is open to all. Media have been invited to attend.
