Dear Local 115 Member,
On behalf of the Executive Team, we hope that you are having an enjoyable summer, and that things are beginning to return to normal after the June floods.
We have rescheduled the Summer Solstice Member Appreciation BBQ to next Wednesday, August 28 from 11:00 to 14:00. Spolumbos will be catering, and there will be free sausage, pop, chips, and veggies for UNA members. Gluten free and vegetarian options will be available. The theme for the upcoming BBQ is a Negotiations Information Rally, and Wear White Wednesdays. In light of the draconian contract proposals from AHS, we want to show AHS that we are united, and will not accept these disrepectful offers. In addition, we want to let the public know how AHS devalues nurses, as well as its disregard for patient safety. We will be handing out information pamphlets while we rally to draw attention to AHS’s plans to replace highly skilled registered nursing staff with lesser skilled and/or unlicenced health care aides.
We will also be handing out free white T-shirts to the first 100 members at the BBQ to promote Wear White Wednesdays (WWW). WWW was developed to encourage RNs to wear white uniforms at work to make us more visible to the public, who are often unsure about who is providing care to them. By making ourselves and our profession more visible, the public will take notice if AHS tries to replace us with lesser skilled staff. To complement this on a daily basis, we encourage you to identify yourself as a Registered Nurse when you introduce yourself to patients and family members. UNA is in the process of creating RN pins to give to members, but if you already have an RN pin, please wear it with pride.
Please take this opportunity to attend the rally and BBQ, so we can stand in solidarity and show AHS that we are united for patient safety and a fair contract. The location of the BBQ will be on the East side of Lot 1 along 29th St. near the main entrance. This site was chosen to draw the attention of the public and the media for our information campaign. We look forward to seeing you there.
